Book of the Week 2/24/14

Top50BeatlesSongs

Beatlemania is back! To commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, author Kevin Taggart shares some of his favorite Fab Four tunes in My Top 50 Beatles Songs (Self-Published, 2014).

My Top 50 Beatles Songs lists Taggart’s favorite 50 songs and albums for each year from 1964 to 1969, complete with personal notes.

The book is only available in electronic media and only 128 pages, but will bring back memories to those who experienced Beatlemania firsthand as well as readers who were too young (or not even born yet!) when the British group arrived on the music scene.

Some of us may not agree with Taggart’s song and album choices featured in My Top 50 Beatles Songs, but the book is a delightful read that could be finished in about a day. I found this book promoted on a Facbook page, and glad I had the opportunity to read it for myself.

CompletelyNovel Collaborates With Literary Agents

CompletelyNovel is very excited to announce a new collaboration with Greene & Heaton Literary Agency that will see the best CompletelyNovel books submitted for consideration by Greene & Heaton agents – all as part of your Pro and Plus Publishing Plans!

Their recent survey found over 90% of CN authors would like help getting a literary agent – and CompletelyNovel has  listened.

Each month, details of self-published titles that have received the most sales and/or ratings on CompletelyNovel will be sent to agents at Greene & Heaton to be considered for representation. Authors who subscribe to a CompletelyNovel Plus or Pro publishing plan, can choose to opt-in to the service for no extra charge.

For many entrepreneurial writers, self-publishing while simultaneously exploring more conventional routes to reaching readers, makes good business sense. Greene & Heaton is a very highly respected agency, and forward-thinking in how it discovers new writing talent.

This collaboration marks a new turn in self-publishing as a way for writers to get the attention of literary agents, while  able to test the market for their books and earn money from sales.

There’s never been a better time to start self-publishing with CompletelyNovel!

Book of the Week 2/17/14

TwistedlyFunny

Shelly Ramm follows up on her 2009 memoir The Life of Iroc the Topless Dancer with One Twistedly Funny & Shockingly True Story: Book 2 (PublishAmerica, 2014).

One Twistedly Funny & Shockingly True Story: Book 2 contains some total weirdness surround Ramm and a couple former roommates – a man she described as “a sponge” whom she had awful sex “with his tiny little man piece,” and his sexy brother, an artist/film producer who made the stay worthwhile.

The twist in this story is Ramm inadvertent discovery of the brothers’ loft doubling as a studio for their cable television show…which was not just any type of cable programming. Bizarre scenes with gross subject matter filmed by men in their underwear is just tip of the iceberg; there’s yet more eyebrow-raising material as the book goes on.

As with Iroc, One Twistedly Funny & Shockingly True Story: Book 2 has its witty and “what the hell was she thinking?” moments. This is not a typical tale of arriving in New York to live out a dream or everyone’s cup of tea, but the stories inside this book certainly grab your attention. You’d have to be there to believe it!

Note: Shelly Ramm is scheduled as a live guest on The L. Anne Carrington Show on Wednesday, February 19 at 2:00 PM Eastern to discuss her new book in further detail.

Book of the Week 2/10/14

matchdotcomedy

With Valentine’s Day drawing near, there couldn’t be a better time to feature Susannah B. Mintz’s Match Dot Comedy (Amazon Digital Services, 2014) as a Book of the Week profile.

Match Dot Comedy deals with the roller coaster effects of middle-age dating, something already a tough market for younger people and more awkward past age 30. Many who have delved into online dating will identify with several of Ms. Mintz’s situations while on the quest to find her one true love.

This delightful book is written with blatant honesty blended with an outstanding sense of humor. Readers will find it difficult to tear away from Ms. Mintz’s experiences, complete with twists, turns and a few “oh my goodness” moments.

If you’re going to be alone this Valentine’s Day, Match Dot Comedy is a mood-lifting treat that puts a smile on your face without the short life of flowers or dental damage/waistline expansion caused by candy.
