Book of the Week 1/6/14

Is one of your New Year’s resolutions finding a new companion? Have you tried online dating and encountered several disappointments or disasters?

You are not alone.

Comedian and writer Brian Donovan has been on over 100 Internet dates in a genuine search for love and happiness, the main topic in his book Not A Match: My True Tales of Online Dating Disasters (Thought Catalog, 2013).

This book is a witty, well-written account easily read in a day. While not all dating disasters are humorous, Brian Donovan puts a hilarious twist on some of his own experiences of finding love online. Many readers will identify with the awkwardness of Internet dating, but rather than post long-winded rants, the author shows the humorous side of blind dates.

Not A Match is honest yet lighthearted; my sole criticism of the book is that it isn’t longer (only 68 pages). On the other hand, who needs long, droning dating disappointment stories when short and funny ones will do nicely?

Happy 2014 everyone!
