Library Tax Passes

One result from the November 8 election was good news to supporters of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

A question was posted on the ballot concerning adding a new city tax in order to help keep its libraries in operation by assisting with rising library operating costs. CLP has been one of Pittsburgh’s strongest cultural institutions, featuring everything from lecture series to author appearances and after school programs.

With 300 of 402 precincts counted as 74.63 percent the voting results were as follows:

Total YES Votes: 25,849
Total NO Votes: 10, 514

The new tax is estimated to be at a cost of about $25 per year.
